4th Annual 'One Great Thing' Sale To Benefit The House Of Ruth

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ)—If you like designer clothes at bargain prices you need to head to Owings Mills. The annual One Great Thing sale is this weekend.

Ron Matz reports you can shop with a purpose and help a great local charity.

It's a bargain hunter's paradise. Need a pair of Jimmy Choo's? Or a Diane von Fürstenberg? You can find them at Ruth's Closet in Owings Mills.

"We have a whole section of Diane von Fürstenberg. We have a whole section of St. John. It's just amazing," said Terri Wurmser, House of Ruth Maryland. "Our preview sale is sold out, but we're here all weekend, and there's no ticket required Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We want to sell everything that's in the store. We have personal shoppers helping out, and we want to help the House of Ruth."

The beauty of this sale is that all proceeds benefit the House of Ruth, which provides services to victims of intimate partner violence and their children.

"I think we're best known for providing comprehensive services to individuals affected by intimate partner violence and their children, but we are also reaching out to the community to increase awareness about intimate partner violence as a step toward changing attitudes and behavior," Wurmser said.

All of the items are donated.

"All of the items are donated by wonderful women who support what the House of Ruth is trying to do. We have everything from furs and luxury coats to handbags, hats, shoes and boots, scarves and gloves. We have high-end designers with great prices," Wurmser said.

"We've gone to people that support our cause and love our cause and said 'can you give us one great thing from your closet?' and for many people it's a no brainer. There are a lot of wonderful, giving people in Maryland," Fries-Sierra said.

Hundreds of bargain hunters know about the great deals.

"This is a great way to give and give in so many ways," said Cathy Fries-Sierra, volunteer. "You make people happy with their purchases. You make people happy because they're recycling. They're having somebody use things they adored for some time, and all the money goes to the House of Ruth programs, which is priceless."

Now here's one great thing. A Coach bag that normally sells for about $400 at the outlets is on sale for $125.

It's shopping with a purpose, donating with a passion.

"Both Ruth's Closet and One Great Thing are terrific ways for the House of Ruth to generate revenue but also to extend our reach into the community," Wurmser said.

Ruth's Closet is located in the Valley Village Shopping Center in Owings Mills. The fourth annual "One Great Thing" sale continues through Sunday.
