Man Convicted Of DUI After Car Hit House

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A man who prosecutors say drove his car into a house in Hagerstown and bit the homeowner who tried to get the keys away has been convicted of assault and DUI.

Thirty-three-year-old Christopher Matthew Wegman was convicted Monday Washington County Circuit Court. He will be sentenced on Nov. 10.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that on April 11, a car hit a house on Virginia Avenue. The homeowner told police he saw a man get out of the car and run away, and then return, get into the vehicle and try to start it.

According to court documents, the homeowner tried to take the car keys from the driver, and the man bit him on the thumb and leg.

Wegman was arrested shortly thereafter near his home.
