Baltimore Mayor Rawlings-Blake Will Veto Police Body-Camera Bill

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says she'll veto a police body-camera bill if it lands on her desk so it can "be done right." The bill passed the city council Monday night.

The mayor's comments, published in an editorial Monday in The Baltimore Sun, are in response to criticism for her lack of support for the body-camera bill, now pending in the city council.

Rawlings-Blake says she's "100 percent in support of police body cameras" but that "the citizens deserve for it to be done right."

Rawlings-Blake says she's formed a work group to consider the scope, privacy, data storage and cost involved in a body-camera program, and that the group will report back to her early next year. She says the council should hold off and work with the group for a "fully vetted, legal and well-reasoned" program.
