Harbor East A 'Window Wonderland' For Shoppers

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- With days of cold temperatures in Baltimore, it already feels like Christmas-time. The Harbor East neighborhood is officially kicking off the holiday season.

It's all part of a special "Window Wonderland" event.

Christie Ileto was there as holiday magic unfolded.

It may be November, but it's Christmas on Aliceanna Street.

"It's really nice to have all these entertainments and activities right here," said Reem Alsaad, shopper.

The carols, holiday window displays--and yes--a fairy strolling on stilts. It's all part of the "Window Wonderland" in Harbor East--an annual campaign to promote downtown.

Six-year-old Ripley is a holiday regular.

"We're going to visit some of the shops and we're look into the windows," she said.

"With tonight's unveiling of the holiday windows, it's bringing down a lot of people," said Gary Holcomb, White House, Black Market.

Event organizers say this year 13 stores are participating. They will see about a 20 to 30 percent increase in sales, meaning more foot traffic during the week.

Ileto: "What does that mean for business?"

Holcomb: "It means 'good' because they're walking in and they're walking out with shopping bags full."

"The lights. That wreath. It's just beautiful," one visitor said.

Out-of-towners are even taking in the sights. Downtown is a holiday hub that will soon be home to more bashes, live music, train rides and even Santa--attractions to ring in the holiday and lure people back downtown.

Special holiday events will be happening from now through Christmas downtown. For those details, click here.
