Md. Man Shoots Neighbor's Dog

MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland man has been charged with shooting his neighbor's dog, which now only has three legs.

The Frederick News-Post reports Thursday that 49-year-old Lewis Crouse Jr. of Mount Airy was charged with animal cruelty and malicious destruction of property on Oct. 31.

Charging documents say Crouse grabbed a 20-gauge shotgun and shot Sasha, a 4-year-old pit bull mix, after she strayed into his yard on Oct. 19. Sasha's front left leg, which was nearly shot off, had to be amputated.

Crouse's attorney says Sasha had gotten loose in his client's yard several times in the past and has a history of aggression.

Sasha's owner and Crouse's neighbor, Rishena Summers, says her dog has never attacked anyone and questions whether Sasha was really posing a threat.
