Breaking Down Justin Forsett's Contract

Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports Insider and co-host of the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn and Jason La Canfora, broke down the current contract status of breakout Ravens running back Justin Forsett. Justin signed with the Ravens this past offseason expecting to be a number two or number three back behind Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce. After the situation surrounding Rice and his sudden release coupled with the disappointing play of Bernard Pierce, Forsett was thrust into a feature role with the team. Scott asked Jason what are the terms of his deal. "He is at like 730 (thousand), he's at a vet minimum split contract. My understanding is it's a minimum salary benefit contract. What that means is if you have a player on that kind of contract, that contract cannot be re-negotiated in any manner until it expires."

Justin has set career numbers this season and currently sits third in the league in raw yardage. At the same time he has had far less carries and is averaging 5.8 yards per carry, the closest back to that is Arian Foster at 5.1 yards per carry. Jason believes if you give him some security, Forsett could stay in Baltimore. "I'm not saying he is the end all be all, but if you gave him a decent little chunk of guaranteed money and sign him for a couple of years."
