Ravens Must Improve Conference Record As Playoff Race Heats Up

By Samuel Njoku

With a short week, the Ravens have wasted little time in getting started in preparation for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers. With the way the team performed on Monday Night Football, optimism is high in the facility. But a sense of urgency also hangs over the franchise.

Justin Forsett Wins AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Prior to the start of the season, many would have told you Steve Smith would be the best offseason acquisition for the Baltimore Ravens. And while Smith has played superb, there's little doubt who the true stud pick up for Ozzie Newsome was this year. Justin Forsett has been the gift that keeps on giving for the Ravens in 2014. After the ugly debacle that took place with Ray Rice, Baltimore had a huge hole to fill at the running back position. Forsett, a journeyman running back, made his presence known early and often. The consensus was that Bernard Pierce would be the player who would take over in Rice's absence. But Justin Forsett gave Kubiak and Harbaugh no choice but to plug him in as the starter. He's been so dynamic on the field many view him as a possible Pro Bowl running back. The journeyman RB may finally have found a home.

"It's hard not to want to be [in Baltimore]," Ravens RB Justin Forsett told the media on Wednesday. "I would love to sign here. I've been waiting my whole career to find a home somewhere to not have to move every offseason. So, that would be nice."

Nice for Forsett and for the Baltimore Ravens.

Serious playoff implications in upcoming game

Both the Ravens and the Chargers are fighting for a playoff spot in the AFC. With both teams sitting at 7-4 and with the way the conference has played as a whole, a head-to-head tie breaker could be the difference between playing in January and clearing out your locker. So far, the Ravens have the worst conference record (3-4) of the playoff contending teams. All 4 of the Ravens losses have come from the AFC with 3 coming from their division. The Ravens have taken advantage of a weak NFC South, but need wins in the AFC to move up in the playoff hunt. Simply put, Sunday's game against San Diego is huge for both teams
