Baltimore Museum of Art Celebrates 100 Years

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Baltimore Museum of Art is celebrating their 100th anniversary.

Tracey Leong reports on how they plan to honor this achievement.

The museum has invited the community to join them for their 100th celebration. Guests can enjoy the renovated collections and participate in family friendly contests.

The American wing has finally been opened after being closed for 32 years. Baltimore Museum of Art's director, Doreen Bolger, said the museum has reached a milestone.

"It's huge, it's our 100th anniversary, now how often do you turn 100," Bolger said.

Guests of the museum, like Christine Harg, are also impressed by the 100th anniversary renovations.

"I think the way it's arranged, it looks so different and fresh and clean and neat," Harg said.

"I think it's amazing," Allison Hardeveck, another visitor said. "It really goes to show that the legacy of art in America is becoming greater."

Inside the American wing are 850 pieces of fine and decorative arts from the 18th to 20th century.

Visitors said they enjoyed the activities that were planned and the new wing.

"I think its important to have events like this to attract people to be more involved in the arts," Hardeveck said.

The celebration is part of their $28 million renovation project. The next phase will open spring 2015.

Admission to the Baltimore Museum of Art is free.
