WEATHER BLOG: Saturday

We are starting to have warm advection move into the region through the next several days. We have a high pressure system off the Atlantic coast providing southwesterly flow aloft with a southerly wind at the surface. Looking at current radar there is an area of snow in central PA associated with the warm advection. Most of this snow will remain in central PA but a few flurries and light snow could make it into western parts of the viewing area this morning. As for today we looking for temperatures aloft to warm rather quickly throughout the day but with not a fully mixed day it will take some time to get the warm down to the surface. This will allow for another unseasonable cool day across the region. We will start out the day rather cloudy and could see a few breaks of sun as we head into the afternoon. Tonight temperatures will remain steady or even rise throughout the night as the WAA continues to spread increasing temperatures aloft. A low pressure system moving into Quebec will have a strong cold front move into the Great Lakes tomorrow. With the cold front far enough away from the region we will see a dry day with warmer temperatures back into the 50s. There could be a spotty afternoon shower in the Poconos or the Catskills but other than that the I-95 corridor will remain dry.

By Monday the cold front will be moving through by the morning or early afternoon hours. This will set up for the warmest day this week. Only a passing shower will move through as the front will be moisture starved. This cold front is going to usher in colder temperatures on Tuesday with highs only reaching the upper 30s as our wind flow shifts from the north Monday night to easterly Tuesday afternoon. High pressure over New England will keep the cold air dammed across the central PA/NY but warm air will surge back northward Tuesday night and once again could see rising temperatures overnight with highs back into the 50s by Wednesday. A few showers will move across the region as a cold front pushes through the area during the afternoon hours for another round of chilly weather Thursday and Friday as high pressure builds in from the west!
