WEATHER BLOG: Crisp, Dry, Chilly Day

We're emerging from the 'murkiness' of yesterday with a crisp, dry and chillier air mass taking over the reigns this morning.

Therefore, we should have at least a few hours of sunshine today, and most temperatures will be in the low or mid 40s this afternoon.

This new area of high pressure, which is going to eventually be drifting into eastern Canada by early on Saturday morning, should keep our weather dry for about another 48 hours.

We discussed yesterday that there is going to be a parcel of energy emerging in the southern Plains states tomorrow, which is the same disturbance responsible for bringing beneficial rain to California recently.

As a low pressure system begins to take shape in the Tennessee Valley tomorrow night, moisture that'll be streaking way out ahead of it in the upper levels of the atmosphere tomorrow morning will cause high clouds to dim the sun as far east as southern New England.

As those clouds take the entire day and even the first part of tomorrow night to lower and thicken, we'll be waiting on our next round of precipitation.

There should be some rain arriving by midnight (on Friday night) across much of southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and South Jersey.

Farther north and east, it will probably hold off until the wee hours of Saturday morning.

There's a concern that with most temperatures expected to be in the 30s across interior parts of the Northeast late on Friday night, the rain in places such as the Lower Hudson Valley and the Poconos may freeze on some surfaces at the onset.

Conversely, the cloud cover's early arrival in the big cities tomorrow will prevent nighttime temperatures from dropping very much -- for example, the numerical models in NYC are suggesting maximum temperatures will be in the upper 40s tomorrow, then the minimum temperature at night are only going to be in the mid -40s.

If this kind of scenario does play itself out (also in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.), then there will certainly be no sleet or freezing rain occurring around the urban centers.
