WEATHER BLOG: Sunday

As we head into the day today, skies will slowly clear as this rain maker moves away. High pressure will settle over the eastern Great Lakes, nosing into New England during the afternoon, which will promote some sunshine. Despite this, temperatures will remain cool in the mid 40's. This cool regime will continue into tonight and Monday with lows dipping into the 20's even in the city. Highs on Monday will be a bit cooler than today, mainly staying in the upper 30's.

As we head into Monday night, an upper level trough will be vigorously digging across the east as additional upper level energy dives into it. This will develop off the Carolina coast by early Tuesday. Current indications are that the upper level trough will go negative by Tuesday evening, leading to a low track that will take the low fairly close to western Long Island. The Euro actually stalls the system just east of NYC, before moving it into southern New England. The GFS is a bit farther east, but the result is the same- heavy rain and wind.

At this point, it appears that a long duration coastal storm is likely to impact the region beginning Monday night and continuing through Wednesday with rain and wind being the biggest threat.

By late Wednesday, the system will be spinning over New England. Moisture rotating around the system will allow for some flurries or sprinkles through Thursday.

By Friday, this system will pull away from the region, and heights will begin to rise. This will begin what looks to be a moderating trend for the weekend and into the beginning of next week.
