Poinsettia Bowl Tickets Cheaper For Second Meeting Between Navy And San Diego State

Provided by TiqIQ

Though the Navy Midshipmen still have one very important regular season game to play, they are already assured of a bowl spot this season. Navy will be taking on the San Diego State Aztecs in the 2014 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. The game will be played in the Aztecs’ backyard at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego on December 23rd at 6:30pm.

Navy has been to the Poinsettia Bowl three times in the past, winning the inaugural game 51-30 over Colorado State in 2005. This will be their fourth appearance, the most by any one team since the bowl began in 2005. Their most recent appearance was in 2010 when the Midshipmen lost to none other than San Diego State 35-14. The Aztecs have appeared in the game one other time, losing to BYU 23-6 two years ago.

This year’s rendition between Navy and San Diego State will boast two entirely different teams than when they last met and it will also feature one more interesting facet, especially for fans looking to go to the game: cheaper tickets.

Poinsettia Bowl tickets start at $43 on PrimeSport.com, the official VIP hospitality and travel package provider of the Poinsettia Bowl, with an average price of only $83. That is sixteen dollars less expensive than the $99 average price for their 2010 meeting. PrimeSport also offers ticket packages starting at $85 that include a VIP pass to a pre-game tailgate with unlimited food, beer, and wine.

The play of San Diego State and Navy this year perhaps is partially to blame for the lower ticket prices as neither team has been as impressive as they were in 2010. This year’s Aztecs team enters with a 7-5 record, compared to 8-4 in 2010. They did not play a particularly difficult schedule, only facing one ranked opponent – the University of North Carolina – but they were able to win five in-conference games along with their two non-conference victories to qualify for the bowl. The Midshipmen entered the 2010 contest at 9-3, but have just barely reached the point of qualification this year as they sit at 6-5 entering the game with Army this Saturday. Their schedule has been much more difficult than San Diego State and they have played close to several other bowl teams, including a hard-fought seventeen point defeat to Ohio State to open the year.

The Buckeyes will be participating in this year’s first ever College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Sugar Bowl. You’ll find much steeper ticket prices for their meeting with Alabama on January 1st, according to PrimeSport, as the average price is currently $567.

Navy had no way to know the Buckeyes would be that successful this season, but it was clearly a sign that they could compete with other bowl-talented teams. Along with that loss, they narrowly were defeated by an eventual 7-5 Rutgers team, and lost by just ten points to Notre Dame who was ranked 10th in the country at the time. The Midshipmen’s punishing running attack will be a big challenge for the Aztecs, as it’s been a challenge for some of college’s best programs this year.

The Midshipmen will look to take care of business this Saturday, and after that they’ll have ten days to prepare for San Diego State. Though the players may not have been around for their last meeting, they will certainly look to avenge that loss and win the 2014 Poinsettia Bowl.
