Christmas Starts At Church For Many Md. Families
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Thousands of Maryland families celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.
Christie Ileto explains how many Christians are marking the holiday.
The sound of Christmas celebrations starts at church for many Marylanders.
"We spend Christmas Eve in Annapolis with our family. So we always come Christmas Day here at Cathedral," said Suzanne Connelly.
The Connellys are regulars at Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. Inside, pews are lined with generations of Catholics. For many, Jesus is the symbol of what's really important.
"I like to worship here. The message I hope to hear is a message of peace in the world," said Anthony Oledge.
Pope Francis delivered his second advent address as the leader of the Catholic church to thousands in Rome and on Twitter to those around the globe.
There was a similar holiday message at New Psalmist Baptist Church.
"With all that's been happening across our country, the various issues that have been raised, the tensions that exist, I think today reminds us that God is letting us know that there is hope," said Pastor Walter Thomas.
Others start Christmas picking up last minute things they forgot. It's a day celebrated differently across the city, but has one common theme.
"Bringing people all together. Family, friends. I think that's the most important thing in life," said Malou Quirez.
Many people say the message is to keep the Christmas spirit year round.
