Three Suspects Arrested For Kidney Transplant Recipient's Death

SILVER SPRING, Md. (WJZ) --- He was given a second chance at life, but on Dec. 6, Jonathan Edward Terril Harris was killed during a burglary at his Silver Spring home. A devastating end, after he'd already survived so much.

Police have arrested three people for the homicide of kidney transplant recipient, Jonathan Harris.

Latoya Renell Morgan, 33, of Capitol Heights, Samantha Carol Parker, 26, of Rockville and Dion Ramon Sobotker, 32, of Temple Hills have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and robbery.

On Dec. 6 at 10:47 a.m., authorities received a call from Harris' mother for a burglary at the 2300 block of Eagles Rock Place. Officers arrived to the scene and found Harris dead inside the home. Harris had suffered trauma to the top portion of his body.

His death was later ruled a homicide as a result of asphyxia.

From the beginning, Harris fought for life.  He was born with one kidney and his second one started to fail when he was 12 years old.

In 2010, Harris and his mother, along with 30 others took part in the largest mass kidney transplant in history at Georgetown Transplant Institute.

Their story was featured on the Today Show.

Transplant experts say a loss like this is particularly heartbreaking for the entire community.

During the investigation, authorities said Harris' credit card was used just after they believe the homicide happened.  Surveillance video shows the suspects using Harris' credit card.

According to police, Morgan and Parker made statements placing themselves at the scene of the crime.

Parker, a former girlfriend of Harris, made threats to physically harm with the assistance of other people.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call 240-773-5070. Callers will remain anonymous.
