Injury Report: Eugene Monroe Unlikely To Play Against Browns

By Samuel Njoku

The Ravens are four quarters away from either a trip to the postseason or cleaning out their lockers when they face the Cleveland Browns. Baltimore lost control of their destiny when they fell to the Houston Texans last week. Now they’ll need to win against Cleveland and hope the Kansas City Chiefs take care of business against the San Diego Chargers. It’s a task they’ll need to accomplish with a few prominent players currently banged up.

The Ravens were not just embarrassed against the Houston Texans – they were beaten up. Baltimore left that game with bumps, bruises, and a few casualties that will impact their upcoming game. For starters, RT Rick Wagner is done for the season with a foot injury and was subsequently moved to Injured Reserve. James Hurst will likely fill in for him, though it remains to be seen if movement will be made across the offensive line. That is because of the sense of trepidation as it pertains to LT Eugene Monroe. He suffered an injury to his ankle last Sunday and his status for the upcoming game is up in the air after he missed practice the entire week.

His absence would thrust John Urshel into the lineup against the Browns. Both Urschel and Hurst struggled against the Texans last week and forced Baltimore to make changes later on to combat the ferocity of J.J. Watt. This means we may see Marshal Yanda moved to right tackle and Hurst pushed inside at guard.

Besides Eugene Monroe, two other players failed to practice this week. On the defensive side of the ball, Chris Canty and Terrell Suggs are dealing with thigh injuries. Canty is also dealing with a nagging ankle injury while Suggs is also dealing with problems with his back. Both look to be game time decisions. With the playoff implications at an all-time high, it would be a surprise if either men failed to suit up.

On the Browns front, it looks as if Connor Shaw will start against the Ravens as both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel injured themselves in their contest against the Carolina Panthers. It’s also worth noting that Chiefs QB Alex Smith has a lacerated spleen and is out for the season. Kansas City Chiefs QB Chase Daniel will start against the San Diego Chargers.
