Purple Playoffs Passion Has Businesses Seeing Green

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --- The Baltimore Ravens have clenched a spot in the playoffs! Derek Valcourt explains how this purple playoffs passions has a lot of local businesses seeing green.

Hot off the presses, purple pride in full effect at Maryland Screen Printing. Orders for playoff tees are coming in faster than they can fill them.

"Everything we're printing now is all because of the playoffs," Louis Buckner said. "Since the game ended, I put the shirt out last night and maybe 20 minutes after I put the shirts out, the orders started coming in."

For fans, it's not just a playoff game, it's a Pittsburgh playoff game.

"I'm hoping they beat the Steelers cuz I hate 'em," Tarzan Peterson said.

That kind of passion will drive people to drink and that's pretty much what every restaurant and sports bar with a big screen TV is counting on for this Saturday.

"It's like an extra day of celebration for businesses everywhere," Richard Karoll of Ryleigh's Oyster said. "Last year when the Ravens did not make the playoffs you could see business drop off when the playoffs started. The year before, it was up. Hopefully this year it will be up as well."

"Business will be very good if they upset Pittsburgh," Eugene Cotton said.

Apparell vendors, like Ravens Fever, are still stocking up on the good gear and the customers keep coming. Something most vendors say wouldn't really be happening if the Ravens hadn't made the playoffs.

"When they're there or trying, we sell," Cotton said.

"Who knows once you get into the playoffs," Rick Sobus said. "I mean look at Flacco's record in the playoffs... say no more."

The folks at RavensFever.com have made wild card t-shirts.
