WEATHER BLOG: Stay Dry

A pretty dry and calm day holding on and transitioning into a peaceful evening. However, by dawn we could start seeing precipitation moving in. Temps will dictate what falls around the region.

With overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 20s, we have a FREEZING RAIN ADVISORY in effect for far Western, MD from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=lwx&wwa=freezing%20rain%20advisory.

We also have a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in place from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. http://forecast.weather.gov/wwamap/wwatxtget.php?cwa=lwx&wwa=winter%20weather%20advisory.

It remains dry most of the night, but sleet and freezing rain could creep into areas south and west of the Beltway during the coldest parts of the overnight period. Temperatures Saturday will struggle to reach the 40s, but for baltimore and Pittsburgh, temps could rise through the evening. Any ice related problems should stay on the leading edge of the storm as milder air over-runs the region later.

Low pressure is already forming in the southern plains and the leading bands of precip are crossing Louisville and the the Carolinas…enroute to the mid-Atlantic. Moisture and the associated warm-front lifts toward the Great Lakes then pushes northeastward over the next 36 hours. Cold front trailing the storm pushes off the East Coast Sunday night. After Sunday highs in the low 60s there is a sharp drop-off in temps. Colder air settles in quickly and hangs through next week. Worst of the storm and the heaviest rain brings liquid totals between .50" and .75" with higher local amounts. Temps stay chilly Saturday, but rise through the night into a balmy feeling high on Sunday.

Bottom line: Saturday stay dry, Sunday stay cool and Monday bundle up.
