Md. News Station's Social Media Hacked

SALISBURY, Md. (WJZ) --- The social media accounts of two news organizations, one in Maryland, were hacked by those sympathetic to the terror group ISIS.

Mike Schuh has details from the TV station hacked in Salisbury.

The Salisbury station, WBOC, says it was chaotic. The reason was right on their website as a group called Cyber Caliphate took over its Twitter feed and website.

"At around 11 o'clock, we saw that our Twitter password was changed... we were locked out," director of digital media at WBOC, Ethan Holland said. "Then after 11:30 we saw that our website was modified."

The website was modified to say, "I love ISIS." The station's webmaster scrambled to stop the attack and change its Twitter feed.

"We uh took as quick of action as we possibly could," WBOC web editor, Kye Parsons said.

The station regained control of the website, but they want to be clear they don't share ISIS views.

"We need to let everybody know this was not our doing and we're doing everything we can to correct the situation," WBOC general manager, Craig Jaheika said.

Local police were called in and the FBI is investigating.

"My absolute number one concern and the concern of everyone here at WBOC is our viewers and our internet users so they can rest assured that the information they get from us is accurate and comes from us," Jaheika said.

At mid-day, the station had yet to get back control of its Twitter feed.

A newspaper in New Mexico also had its Twitter account hacked by the same group on Tuesday with much of the same material posted.
