Maryland Teen Gets 2 Days In Jail In Speed-Camera Burning

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- A Howard County teen has been sentenced to two days in jail for setting fire to speed-camera equipment.

Nineteen-year-old Connor Eash of Glenelg was sentenced to the short jail term and 200 hours of community service in Howard County Circuit Court on Thursday. Eash pleaded guilty in November to malicious destruction of property and attempted first-degree burning stemming from incidents in Glenelg in May.

Eash was arrested two days after the first speed camera was lit on fire, when police say they saw him approaching another camera with an ax, a bottle of gasoline and a lighter.

Eash said during Thursday's hearing that his behavior was immature and reckless.

Judge Richard Bernhardt told Eash that his actions were silly, wrong and potentially dangerous -- not a political statement.
