Md. Fitness Model Struck And Killed By Train In California

BURBANK, Calif. (AP/The Baltimore Sun) -- A 37-year-old model featured on the cover of numerous fitness magazines was struck and killed by a train while filming on the tracks in Southern California, authorities said.

George Plitt Jr. -- best known as Greg Plitt -- and two other men were filming north of the Burbank train station Saturday afternoon when Plitt was hit by a southbound Metrolink train carrying 185 people, Burbank Police Sgt. Scott Meadows said.

Investigators interviewed witnesses who saw Plitt standing on the track even as the train's horn was blaring, Burbank police Sgt. Chris Canales said. Investigators have ruled out a suicide, he said.

Plitt was a well-known fitness model, Canales said.

It was not immediately clear what the men were filming.

The fitness model, actor and West Point graduate has appeared on more than 200 magazine covers, Bravo's reality television show "Work Out" and NBC's daytime soap opera "Days of Our Lives," according to a website in Plitt's name.

Plitt was a Lutherville native. He attended Gilman school, where he wrestled and played football and golf. That's according to our media partner, The Baltimore Sun.

He served five years in the Army after graduating from West Point in 2000, Plitt's website said.

In his final two years or service, he was discovered as a potential model, according to The Sun. He appeared on the cover of Muscle and Fitness Magazine before beginning a television career.

Plitt was 37, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said.
