4 Deer Found With Chronic Brain Disease In Western Md.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources says four more white-tailed deer have tested positive for chronic wasting disease in western Maryland.

The report Friday brings to six the number of Maryland deer in which the fatal brain disease has been found since 2011. The last case was reported last year.

There is no evidence the disease can be transmitted to humans.

The agency says all four deer were killed by hunters in eastern Allegany County during the firearm season in late 2014. That's the same area where the other cases were detected.

Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto says it's inevitable that the disease will spread and the agency is trying to minimize the impact. It has been documented in more than 20 states.
