Steve Davis: Thoughts On Sherman's Baby Decision

Let me preface this by saying I'm a big fan of Richard Sherman. He is a smart and compelling personality, never mind a phenomenal player.

Sherman's girlfriend is expecting a baby soon. He doesn't think it will happen game day but isn't saying whether or not he will play if she does.

My opinion is that he should play. Again, this is my opinion. I understand there will be different takes.

Many times, I have said it is totally understandable if a player misses a game for the birth of a child. It's a very personal decision. However, this isn't a game, it is THE game.

You know when you play football there are certain days you have to work. If you get to the Super Bowl, you owe it to your teammates to play. So many pundits are afraid to say that because it is politically incorrect. Give me a break. It's an opinion.

My guess is that most women would tell their man to go play in the Super Bowl. This isn't a typical day at work and it's not a typical job. The only caveat would be if there was some kind of a health concern; that's different. Plus, with technology today, face time, Skype, etc, he could have a presence in the delivery room.

He's needed on the football field. In the delivery room, he's a cheerleader.
