Police Confirm 2 Shot At Frederick High School Basketball Game

FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ) -- Two people were shot at a basketball game at Frederick High School Wednesday evening.

Christie Ileto reports there was initially a lockdown.

School officials confirm two teenagers were shot. Their conditions are not known at this time but their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The shooter, or shooters, is still at large. There are reports that there may be as many as four, but police haven't confirmed this but have said there could be multiple shooters.

"Any time we have potential bullets flying around with a large group of students and faculty at school, that's a big deal," said Captain Richard Hetherington.

A JV basketball game was going on at the time of the shooting. The gym was packed because of that game. This is where the shooting occurred.

"They're doing secondary sweeps of the building, making sure we don't have people hidden somewhere," Hetherington said. "We need to get them all out."

A motive for the shooting is also not known.

School officials say all other students and staff are safe and accounted for. They said that they were escorting students to the West College Terrace Bowling Alley parking lot and releasing them to their parents.

The victims were flown to Baltimore hospitals; both victims have non-life threatening injuries.
