Frederick High Students Try To Return To Normal After Shooting
FREDERICK, Md. (WJZ) --Two nights after a pair of students were shot at a high school basketball game, the Frederick cadets are back on the court. But, there's a heavy police presence at to night's games with the shooters still on the loose.
Christie Ileto reports on conditions of the teenage victims.
One of the victims was released earlier today, the other is still here. As he recovers, the students and faculty are just trying to get back to normal.
A new game and more security at Frederick High, 48 hours after a 14 and 15-year-old are shot outside the school's gym during a junior varsity basketball game.
Parents John and Julie Shedio never miss a game, but say they were initially reluctant to send their kids back to school Friday.
"We don't think these things are going to happen so close to home, and then they do and it's a reality check," John Shedio said.
That chilling reality sent 200 fans running for cover, forcing an immediate lockdown and rushing panicked parents to the school.
"Scared you just think the worst, you think the worst," a parent said.
Frederick County schools are working to reassure parents and students.
"We have extra police presence and extra security as well," Michael Doerrer with Frederick County Public Schools said. "It's important people feel safe."
Police believe this was not random and the victims likely knew the shooter. This is believed to possible be part of an ongoing feud unrelated to the game.
"This is our school," student Marc Larios said.
But, Wednesday's lawless is no deterrent, instead unifying the school.
The school community taking to Twitter to share their support with hashtag, FHS strong.
"We ain't gonna let anything bring us down," Larios said. "We're still coming to the games to support."
"This sense of normalcy is really important for Frederick High," Ann Bonitatibus with Frederick County Public Schools said.
A school slowly getting back to normal as police hunt the gunman behind the brazen school attack.
Police are checking school surveillance cameras for clues.
The suspects or suspect could face charges of first-degree assault. Anyone with information on the shooting should call police.
