Baltimore Man Sentenced To Life In Prison In Fatal Shooting

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore man has been sentenced to life in prison in the fatal shooting of an acquaintance and the unrelated rape of a woman.

The Baltimore Sun reports that two juries found 25-year-old Benny Davis guilty in both cases last fall. He was sentenced Monday to life plus 40 years in prison.

Davis maintained his innocence in both cases and says his trials weren't fair.

Davis was charged in the March 2013 killing of D'Andre Thomas, a 25-year-old father of a 9-month-old baby. Prosecutors say Thomas had defended Davis' girlfriend after Davis had attacked her.

After arresting Davis in the murder case, police collected his DNA and say they connected it to the 2011 rape of a woman who was sexually assaulted by two men outside her Baltimore home.
