Police: Suspect Who Forced Lockdown Of Md. School Captured In Del.

WOODLAWN, Md. (WJZ) --Frantic moments for students, teachers, and parents at a Baltimore County elementary school-- lock down as dozens of heavily armed police officers swarmed the area hunting for an assault suspect.

Meghan McCorkell has more on the investigation.

SWAT teams surround a home in the Kingswood Common Condominiums.

"I came out for lunch there was a bunch of cop cars right here, then that SWAT truck pulled in," said Doug Seymour.

Investigations say a woman called police around 10:30 a.m. claiming her husband stabbed her with a knife then threatened their daughter.

"Her husband then stated he was going to go to Dogwood Elementary School and kill their daughter," said Cpl. John Wachter, Baltimore County Police.

Detectives immediately contacted school officials who put the building on lockdown--police guarding the entrances as an exhaustive search for the suspect began.

"I've never seen nothing like this, this is a pretty quiet neighborhood," said Amanda Lewis.

SWAT teams burst into the couples home fearing the suspect maybe held up inside, but he wasn't there. Investigators determined he had fled the area.

The alert status at Dogwood Elementary was lifted around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. WJZ was there as the mother with a bandage around her hand  and her daughter returned home. Police found the father's car just a block away, but he was nowhere to be found

This afternoon he was captured all the way in Delaware.

"He is now in custody in Wilmington and waiting extradition to Maryland," said Wachter.

Both the mother and child are expected to be ok.

Police have not identified the suspect until he is formerly charged.

The mother suffered minor injuries she refused to be taken to the hospital.
