Kiddie Recalls Disposable Fire Extinguishers Due To Failure To Discharge

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)—A popular fire extinguisher company has recalled some of their units after a faulty valve is causing failure when the extinguisher is in use.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Kiddie has recalled 31 models of their disposable fire extinguishers with Zytel black plastic valves. The extinguishers are red, white , and silver and either ABC or BC rated.

The company says when the lever is repeatedly pressed and released during a fire emergency it may pose a risk of injury.

Manufacture dates included in the recall are July 23, 2013 through October 15, 2014. Kiddie says a 10-digit date code is stamped on the side of the cylinder, near the bottom. Digits five through nine represent the day and year of manufacture in DDDYY format.

To read more about the recall you can visit the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission, or call Kiddie at (855) 283-7991.
