D.C. Area Readying For Chinese New Year
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington region is getting ready to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Thursday is the start of Chinese New Year, and celebrations are planned at different locations throughout the area.
On Saturday, the Smithsonian's Arthur M. Sackler Gallery and Freer Gallery of Art, which hold Asian art collections, will host tours, cooking demonstrations and book readings.
On Sunday at 2 p.m., there will be a parade in the District of Columbia's Chinatown neighborhood. The Chinatown Community Cultural Center will also host a variety of groups and activities from noon to 5 p.m. including demonstrations of traditional Chinese calligraphy, crafts for kids and kung fu and tai chi demonstrations.
