WEATHER BLOG: Black Ice A Concern

Clouds broke across the region this afternoon, allowing temperatures to rise well into the 40s. We will have some snow melt and we will have to watch for some ponding on area roadways. Temperatures will drop below freezing tonight, allowing any wet spots on untreated surfaces to freeze back over. Black ice will be a significant concern Monday morning.

Dry weather will persist through Tuesday as high pressure builds over the region and slides offshore in the afternoon on Tuesday. Low temperatures Monday night will drop back into the single digits, but will fall just shy of the extreme cold experienced pre-snow at the end of last week. Numbers will fall just shy of record numbers at BWI Marshall.

Clipper system passes by well to the north Tuesday night and Wednesday, keeping any precipitation north of the viewing area. Even if we see some radar returns, the dry airmass in the wake of the departing high will be difficult to overcome. Wednesday will bring another brief warmup ahead of the cold front as temperatures rise above freezing.

Record cold will again be approached Wednesday and Thursday nights as another Canadian high pressure builds in behind the front.
