Anne Arundel County Family Featured On Reality Show

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- There is a family in Anne Arundel County that attracts attention wherever they go.

Now, as Mike Schuh reports, cable television is making them stand out even more.

At just three, twins Cici and Kate don't yet realize they're different than most of us---but the Discovery Network does. They're following the Hamill family, showing their lives in the show "Our Little Family." They were chosen because of their genetics.

"Everyone in our family has achondroplasia, which is a type of dwarfism---the most popular--err, common---type of dwarfism," said Dan Hamill.

But beyond their size, this is a regular family with the stress of raising three kids. The producers put the family in situations where we see the challenges of being a little person.

"They have ideas and you have ideas about what you want to do today and the rest is pretty real," said Hamill.

All 10 episodes have been shot and six have aired. So far, the ratings have been good. So will TLC cameras return this summer?

"Possibly. We don't know. We have a good gut feeling but we don't know. Nothing is signed," said the Hamills.

Why do this? They get a modest fee but they say awareness is more important.

"I think the world is very excited about little people and I think we've come a long way but I think there still needs to be a tad bit more educating that we can do for some people out there," said Michelle Hamill.

The Hamills are getting used to being recognized and they say the producers were respectful---but seeing themselves on national TV is still a shock.

"Seeing myself still took a little to get used to, you know, and some of the things that I've done, I look and go, `Oooh, I don't know if I'd do that again,'" she said.

Their show "Our Little Family" airs on the TLC Network.
