Winter Storm Warning, Snow Expected Overnight

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It may be milder and foggy outside, but another storm and more snow is on its way.

As Bob Turk reports, a winter storm warning is in effect through Thursday at 7 p.m.

First Warning Weather team monitoring conditions:

Late Wednesday night is when we're going to start seeing some problems. Temperatures will slowly fall overnight. By 8 a.m. Thursday, we should be down to right around the freezing mark.

Colder air will start filtering in late Wednesday night. We will see a transition from rain to some sleet and then snow--probably by early Thursday morning.

Here's what we're expecting through Thursday night:

The heaviest snow is expected in our region, with accumulations between 6 to 10 inches. Some ice is possible.

During the day, temps will be in the 20s with snow of various intensity. It will be really heavy--particularly in the morning.

Winds will come from the north at 10 to 15 mph--with gusts of up to 20 mph.

The snow will end between 6 and 7 p.m.

By night, expect temps in the teens--maybe even the single digits.

Stay home, stay safe:

Roads will be snow covered with visibility reduced to near one-quarter mile at times. Traveling could be dangerous. The State Highway Administration and Baltimore's Department of Transportation are asking people to stay home on Thursday.

The Department of Transportation will have salt deliveries Wednesday and will begin treating city streets Wednesday night and Thursday.

Maryland State Police are also preparing for the storm. They are reminding people that if there are traffic light outages, the intersection will become essentially a four way stop sign. You can monitor the traffic conditions by calling 511.

If you do drive Thursday, please remember to have your cell phone fully charged and to have a charger with you. You should also have water, snacks and a blanket, just in case. Police remind you that abandoned and disabled cars cause major problems for them and for state highway officials who are trying to treat and plow the roads.
