Police Report: Suspect In Md. Shootings Was Hearing Voices

MILLERSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- Major developments about an alleged serial shooter who is now in police custody.

Christie Ileto explains new charging documents reveal voices told 35-year-old Hong Young to fire at random on busy highways and public places.

Court documents reveal Hong Young admits to pulling the trigger in a handful of shootings that terrorized Marylanders over two weeks.

His alleged spree ended when two police officers spotted his Lincoln Town Car Tuesday night in a parking lot near Arundel Mills Mall.

Moments after he was pulled over, empty shell casings and a handgun were discovered in the front passenger seat. The same gun was used in previous shootings that started last month.

Confessing to the five shootings, Young tells police voices prompted him to shoot.

"He was hiding in plain sight, he was driving the same vehicle, he was caught on surveillance camera," said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Young is accused of firing at a driver near Arundel Mills Mall, then a Walmart in Laurel, a movie theater at the Mall in Columbia, and Tuesday, at a landscaping truck driving on the ICC and a building at NSA headquarters.

Young's mother was hysterical to learn her son was behind the lawlessness.

"I said, 'He don't come home last night.' He's my good son," she said.

The FBI seized ten guns, including a semi-automatic pistol, and rounds of ammunition from his home Wednesday.

"He seemed to be just a young man that was just living here," a neighbor said.

Young was a former corrections officer living with his mother in Beltsville and in the process of a divorce.

Now, he's on the other side of the law facing a list of charges, including attempted first-degree murder. The motive is still a mystery.

Young is being held without bond.
