Md. Delegate Agrees To Protective Order, Denies Wrongdoing

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) --A Maryland state lawmaker is ordered to stay away from his teenage daughter for an entire year.

Mary Bubala reports a judge issued a protective order against Dr. Hasan "Jay" Jalisi, a democrat who represents Baltimore County in Annapolis.

It stems form a fight between Jalisi and his 19-year-old daughter last month.

Jalisi - a state delegate - left district court in Towson after agreeing to year-long protective order, barring him from seeing teenage daughter.

According to a Baltimore County police report, the delegate and his daughter "got into an argument."

They "struggled over laptop computer."

"He fell backward," and "slapped her in the face" -- an accusation he denied.

"It's a father-daughter relationship. It's complicated." Jalisi said. " She will always find me by her side when she needs me, but it has to be her choice. She's an adult and I love her but sometimes as a parent you have to show your love by lettering your adult child make theirs decision by herself."

Jalisi is a member of the house judiciary committee where he has co-sponsored several domestic violence related bills.

"His position on the house judiciary committee I'm sure is solid, he's done nothing wrong as he said." Luiz Simmons, Jalisi's attorney said. "He's acted as a father and it's his daughter. He's not going to expose the family to any more public ordeal."

Jalisi says he did not harm his daughter, but he will abide by the protective order.

"There's not to be any contact in any form -- telephone, writing or anything like that. And Mr. Jalisi is supposed to stay away from the residence and stay away from her school at Johns Hopkins University," Alan Silverberg, his daughter's attorney said.

Jalisi owns the Lutherville home where his daughter, wife and son live.

He says he typically stays there on the weekends. He owns another home in Owings Mills.

Jalisi was elected to the House of Delegates in November.
