Maryland Lawmaker Reassigned Over Protective Order

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland lawmaker has been reassigned due to a protective order preventing him from contacting his daughter for a year.

Del. Hasan "Jay" Jalisi was reassigned Monday to a different committee by House Speaker Michael Busch.

Jalisi, a Baltimore County Democrat, has been moved from the House Judiciary Committee to the House Environment and Transportation Committee.

The speaker says the reassignment is due to the sensitive nature of issues that come before the judiciary committee.

Jalisi agreed to the terms of the protective order on Monday without acknowledging wrongdoing. His 18-year-old daughter has alleged the delegate slapped her. But Jalisi's lawyer says he "fiercely disputes" the allegation.

Jalisi was elected in November.
