Orioles Closer Zach Britton Checks In From Sarasota

Baltimore Orioles closer Zach Britton joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to give an update from Baltimore's spring camp. Zach is in a new situation with coming into the season with a guranteed role on the team. Britton said that he did tweak some things over the winter. "Nothing from a strength training standpoint, I did the same stuff I did, coming into last year with Brady out in California. From a throwing standpoint definitely, I changed it up a little bit, I talked with Dave and Dom and kind of the ideas they had of what I should and shouldn't do coming into camp."

After discussing what he changed over the summer while adjusting to a new role, Britton discussed what he wants to accomplish in Spring Training. "The main focus down here is commanding the fastball, on both sides of the plate. And, when that's there we move onto the other pitches, but right now it's just commanding the bottom half of the strike zone."

Britton learned how to effectively use the sinker in 2014, he talked about what makes his sinker ball unique. "Whenever you have a unique pitch, the grip is always kind of funky. Everybody, they ask you how to throw it and you show them, and they say 'That's how I throw my slider, or that's how I throw my curve ball.'  The hardest thing to do is to exchange pitch grips and try to duplicate what somebody's got because everyone's body is different, everyone's arm acts different."
