Authorities Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting In AACO

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)--An officer involved shooting in Anne Arundel County ends with the suspect shot in the leg.

Just before 1:00 a.m. this morning, police received reports of an intoxicated man waving around a gun in his neighborhood.

As Tracey Leong reports, when cops arrive, the suspect turns his gun on them.

A gunfight on the 900 block of 9th street in Pasadena.

"We saw him take a shot at the police officer and that after we backed away cause we didn't want to be near the window," said Allison Grimm, neighbor.

Neighbors watching the mayhem unfold as police surround the suspect, 38-year-old John Christopher Delich seen in a previous booking photo in 2011 for a DUI charge.

"Intoxicated person with a gun is a scary call to go to," said Lt. TJ Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.

The police and Delich getting in a shootout in his front yard.

"We are fortunate we are talking about one bad guy who was injured as a result of his actions to fire upon police last night," said Smith.

Neighbors I spoke to who didn't want to go on camera say they're not surprised by the suspect's behavior, but they've never seen him go so far as to fire a gun.

Delich does have a history of driving while under the influence, but nothing violent.

He is facing 14 charges, 7 of which are felonies, including: two counts of attempted second degree murder, two counts of first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault on police, and handgun use in commission of a violent crime.

This typically quiet area taking a violent turn Sunday morning, shaking up the entire neighborhood.

"They did knock on our door and told us to go in the basement, stay there. And then we were in the basement and they knocked on the door again and asked to use the back deck we have a better focus point there, and we said absolutely and they went in the back and we stayed in the basement," Grimm said.

John Christopher Delich is currently in the hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.

It is unclear whether he was struck by police gunfire or accidentally shot himself.

No officers were injured during this incident. The officers involved have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
