Md. Delegate To Run For Congress In 4th District
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A state delegate who represents parts of Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties is the latest candidate to announce a bid for Congress in Maryland's 4th District.
Democratic Delegate Joseline Pena-Melnyk told The Associated Press in an email on Sunday that she plans to run for the seat being vacated by Rep. Donna Edwards. A formal announcement is expected on Tuesday.
Pena-Melnyk is the third candidate to launch a campaign for the seat, which is considered safely Democratic. The others are former lieutenant governor Anthony Brown and former Prince George's County state's attorney Glenn Ivey.
Edwards, a Democrat, is running for the Senate seat held by the retiring Barbara Mikulski. Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen is also seeking that seat.
Pena-Melnyk has served in the House of Delegates since 2007.
