Lady Terps Coach Brenda Frese Talks About March Madness Excitement

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- Excitement is building in College Park. March Madness is taking over as the Maryland women's basketball team gets ready to take on New Mexico State Saturday.

It's expected to be the beginning of an exciting journey for the Terps and their coach--Brenda Frese.

Mary Bubala met courtside with Coach Frese to talk about the excitement.

Bubala: "This is where it all starts. Saturday night, here on this court. Are you excited?"

Frese: "We are. March Madness. This is what you work so hard for."

And the women Terps have played incredible basketball under Coach Frese with her intensity, focus and drive. The nation definitely "Fears the Brenda."

Excitement is building. For the 11th time in her 13 seasons, Coach Brenda Frese is leading the women to the NCAA Tournament after winning it all in the Big Ten as newcomers to the conference.

Bubala: "We know everybody loves the guys. The crowd is here for them. Are the women getting the respect finally that they definitely deserve?"

Frese: "Our fan base has always been tremendous. Hosting the NCAAs now though, and having people buy their tickets for these sessions is huge. So we're looking forward to having our sixth man help us with our home court."

Bubala: "What about young girls? They look up to you. They look up to the young women that you coach. What does that do for the sport?"

Frese: "I know our team takes great responsibility of the fact that we are role models. We cherish that, how we lead by example. And I think our team really exemplifies truly what it means to be a team and to look out for each other."

Bubala: "Do you love every one of these girls? Do you consider them your daughters in some way?"

Frese: "No question. I'm fortunate. I have two boys, and I have 12 daughters. So, being a mom, you always understand that you're coaching someone else's daughter. And I'm pretty fortunate of the 12 that we have here on our team."

The lady Terps went to the Final Four last year, and won it all back in 2006.
