Woman Seeks Jury Trial In Western Md. Christmas Eve Slaying; Contends She's Not The Shooter

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A woman accused in a fatal, Christmas Eve shooting near Frederick wants a jury trial.

Defense attorney Carl Somerlock said Thursday that 19-year-old Neajee Terry denies firing the shots that killed 20-year-old Malicia Smith of Hagerstown. Terry waived a preliminary hearing and her case has been moved to Frederick County Circuit Court for trial.

Somerlock says all the evidence points to 20-year-old Curtis Evans as the shooter. Evans was driving the car in which all three were traveling when Smith was shot along U.S. 40.

Evans contends that Terry shot Smith after making him stop so the women could get out and check for something rubbing on a tire. He told police that Terry then ordered him to drive her to New York, where she was arrested.
