Police Search For Suspect In Assault That Injured Woman & Dogs

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore city police continue to search for the man who savagely attacked a woman and her two dogs. One of the dogs was so badly hurt, it had to be euthanized.

Derek Valcourt has more on who police are looking for.

There is concern that based on what the man is accused of doing, he could be a danger to others.

Police launch an all-out effort to catch 26-year-old Brandon Gulliver, accused of attacking a woman he knew in the 1800 block of Westwood Avenue early Sunday morning.

"This is a suspect who not only assaulted in the victim in this case, but the suspect also assaulted two defenseless dogs that were inside of the house," said Det. Jeremy Silbert, Baltimore City Police Department.

One of the two dogs was beaten so badly, it had to be euthanized. The other dog is now being cared for by Animal Control.

"This is such a tragic case," said Dr. Leana Wen, Baltimore City health commissioner.

The city health commissioner is unable to comment on the condition of the surviving dog, citing the pending investigation, but says they take cases involving violence against animals very seriously.

"Dozens of studies have shown that people who are cruel to animals and abuse their animals also tend to be cruel and abusive towards people around them as well," said Dr. Wen.

The occupants of the home did not want to speak with us on camera, but on Monday night, the landlord gave an exclusive interview to WJZ.

Reporter: "Where did police find the dog?"

Landlord: "The police told me down here."

Reporter: "In that oven?"

Landlord: "Yes."

Police would not release details on the assault, but landlord Joan Lilly showed WJZ the extensive damage inside the home. She says she's not familiar with the suspect Brandon Gulliver.

"I heard that he had beat up the girl," said Lilly.

Gulliver is now wanted on charges of assault and aggravated animal cruelty.

The woman who was hospitalized is expected to survive her injuries.

Court records indicate Gulliver has several criminal convictions on his record, and is on probation for a prior assault case.

Anybody with information about the suspect is urged to call 911.
