Boy, 17, Found Not Competent For Trial In 3 Attempted Rapes

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A 17-year-old boy has been found not competent to stand trial for the attempted rape of three women in a Walkersville park.

The Frederick News-Post reports that a Frederick County judge on Wednesday ordered mental-health counseling and scheduled a hearing in September to review the boy's status. If he's found competent at that hearing, his mental health will be evaluated to determine if can be found not criminally responsible.

The boy was charged in May with three counts of attempted second-degree rape, three counts of fourth-degree sex offense and two counts of indecent exposure. The charges stemmed from attacks in November 2013 and April 2014 in Walkersville Community Park.

He's charged as an adult but The Associated Press generally does not identify juveniles in criminal cases.
