MSP Superintendent Sworn In, 100 Troopers Added To Force

PIKESVILLE, Md. (WJZ)--Maryland has a new top cop tonight, Colonel William Pallozzi is now the new Maryland State Police Superintendent.

As Pat Warren the swearing in ceremony made news for the entire state.

Colonel William Pallozzi takes the reins of the Maryland State Police Department and Governor Hogan announces a bigger commitment from the state.

"We're also announcing today our plan to reverse a 2008 decision by the previous administration to close the state police barracks in Annapolis," said Governor Larry Hogan.

Warren: "You seem very excited about opening the Annapolis State Barracks again."

"Very excited about it. I think it was a mistake, I can't imagine there are too many state capitals in the country that don't have a state police barracks," said Governor Hogan.

In addition, 100 new troopers will join the ranks.

Colonel William Pallozzi has been with Maryland State Police since 1989. He had an emotional response to his appointment of superintendent.

"In the state police we have a saying; we have a proud past and a bright future. 100 new troopers and reopening of the Annapolis barrack sets the stage for a bright future," Col. Pallozzi said as he wiped away tears.

The governor is announcing a supplemental budget that provides $8.2 billion to the state police budget.
