Terps Add Top High School Heavyweight Recruit Diamond Stone To Roster

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- Five days after Maryland was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament, the Terps add a heavyweight to their roster. One of the nation's top high school recruits says he's coming to College Park.

He's Diamond Stone. A unique name and an outstanding talent, Stone is 6'10" tall, 250 pounds from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Stone is a five-star recruit who was ranked No. 7 in ESPN's Top 100 for 2015.

Highly decorated, including most valuable player honors for Team USA at a world youth tournament, Stone announced via social media that he'll be a Terrapin next season.

Expectations are that Stone would play one season at Maryland before he jumps to the NBA.

Stone will join junior Robert Carter, a Georgia Tech transfer who sat out 2014-15, on the Maryland team for the 2015-16 season. Maryland coach Mark Turgeon also has freshmen Melo Trimble, Jared Nickens, Dion Wiley and 7-footer Michal Cekovsky as well as sophomore Damonte Dodd and junior Jake Layman returning.
