New Security Changes Come To Camden Yards

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--Tougher security at Camden Yards could make getting into the park longer for fans.

It's all part of a Major Leagues Baseball policy. Metal detectors will line all gates around the park in an effort to keep baseball fans safe.

Marcus Washington has more on the security changes.

Fans line-up to get tickets to see the current AL East Champions in action at Camden Yards.

"The whole family and kids attend the Jr. Orioles, so we attend about 10 games a year," said one fan.

With millions of fans passing through these gates safety is a major concern.

Washington: "People need to be mindful, Opening Day; there will be some changes once they get to the gates."

"That's correct; so one of the most noticeable chances that fans will see right out of the gate, is that we have magnetometers or metal detectors at every entrance," said Greg Bader, VP of Communication & Marketing Orioles.

The Major League Baseball policy is in place at every baseball park in the country.

So this is what you need to know.

When going through the metal detectors  you will need to remove phones, keys, cameras and computers and place in a specified bin.

However, you do not have to remove: belts, wallets, shoes, jackets, jewelry caps or lose change from your pockets.

Another change fans can expect is how soon they open the gates before the game.

"To help out with that we've open the gates two hours before every game this year, instead of 90 minutes. So, that should help a great deal. Every entrance now for all fans, not just season ticket holders," said Bader.

"It's not too much of an inconvenience, but a little bit inconvenience for safety sake," said one fan.

When it comes to your bag, that policy has not changed. Fans without a bag will be able to use an express line at gates, A,C, H and F.
