Vigil Held For AACo. Officer Shot In The Line of Duty

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)--Police say they've captured the gunman who opened fire--- shooting an Anne Arundel County police officer.

30-year-old Colvin Lamar White was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder late last night.

Gigi Barnett reports, a special vigil is held today to support the officer who continues to fight for his life.

Within hours of a launching a massive manhunt for the gunman who shot one of their officers, police in Anne Arundel County make an arrest.

30-year-old Colvin Lamar White faces multiple charges, including attempted first and second degree murder.

"Anybody that wants to turn their gun and fire towards a police officer is a cold, callous human being. That person has reckless disregard for anyone's life," said Lt. TJ Smith, Anne Arundel Co. Police

Investigators say Corporal Larry Adams was outside a 7-11 in Annapolis when witnesses warned White was outside acting suspiciously.

The two got in some kind of altercation and White ran away.

Investigators say when the officer followed him, White shot him in the upper body.

On Saturday night, members of the nearby Cape Saint Claire Community came together to pray for Corporal Adams.

The ten year veteran of the police force remains in critical condition at Shock Trauma after undergoing multiple surgeries.

Meantime, Colvin White is now being held without bond.

WJZ has learned White has a lengthy criminal history including, robbery, weapons and drug charges.
