Baltimore Mayor Pledges To Fund Police Body Cameras

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is touting her plans to equip some police officers with body cameras after a police officer shot an unarmed man in South Carolina.

Rawlings-Blake appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday and reiterated her support for body cameras. She pledged to fund a program for police body cameras even if the city doesn't get federal funding for the cameras.

In February, a mayoral task force recommended that Baltimore should pursue a six-month pilot program with body cameras on 100 police officers.

The mayor says maintaining trust with the police is a priority. On Monday, Rawlings-Blake is set to outline her next steps to increase transparency and accountability in police practices.
