Towson Dance Team Wins National Championship

TOWSON, Md. (WJZ) -- They did it again! The Towson University dance team has won the national championship!

Amy Yensi met the excited winners.

The dance team beat out dozens of universities but Towson didn't settle for just one championship title.

You better have the right moves to battle the Towson University dance team, the winners of the 2015 National Dance Alliance Collegiate National Championship.

"We all basically just collapsed and we were in shock and so excited," said Victoria Scacchetti.

It's the seventeenth consecutive time Towson has won the national trophy. The 27 team members met four times a week to practice choreography, showmanship and all that jazz. They say winning after disappointing preliminary scores was no simple one-two step.

"We went into finals and we just put it all out on the floor and we ended up earning back our title," said Samantha Aug.

The Towson cheerleading team also put their best foot forward at the competitions in Daytona Beach. The cheer squad says winning their second title in three years in front of nearly 20,000 people is an experience they'll never forget.

"I have goosebumps right now. I can't even describe the feeling. It was one of the best feelings I've ever felt in my life," said Brooke Brungart.

A feeling of pride for themselves, the dance team and their school.

"That's what we said. We said they did it; now it's our turn. We want to be bringing that other trophy back home to Towson," said Brungart.

Bring it home, they did. This is the senior year for some of the dance and cheer team members so they're extra excited to leave on top.

The NCA and NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship is the largest in the world.
