Police: Boater's Body Found On Potomac River

COBB ISLAND, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Natural Resources Police say the body of a Worcester County teacher has been found after an apparent boating accident.

Officials say 51-year-old Douglas Romano left his Salisbury home Sunday morning to look for fossils on the Potomac River shoreline. When he didn't return, his family alerted authorities.

Officials say Romano's skiff was found capsized near Westmoreland State Park in Montross, Virginia, on Monday and his body was found later that day near Cobb Island, Maryland.

Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says there's no sign of foul play and the investigation of Romano's death is continuing. She says boating conditions were challenging on Sunday with rough waters and 55 degree water temperatures. Romano's body was sent to the Office of the

Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
