Man Dies In Fatal Crash After Avoiding Traffic Stop

WALDORF, Md. (WJZ) -- Maryland State Police is investigating a fatal collision in Charles County after police attempted to stop the driver early Thursday morning.

Update: Police have identified the man as 26-year-old Delonte Lee of Fort Washington, Md.

Lee's body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

According to a preliminary investigation, around 1 a.m. Thursday a trooper attempted to stop Lee who was driving a 2005 Toyota Scion traveling along Route 301 near Acton Lane because a tag light was out on the car.

As the trooper followed the car down Acton Lane it saw the Toyota had struck a utility police just prior to Timberbrook Drive.

No passengers were inside the vehicle.
