Smithsonian Hosts Symposium On Ferguson, Race, Police Force

WASHINGTON (AP) -- After several cases of police shooting unarmed black men have drawn protests and national scrutiny, the Smithsonian Institution is examining this moment in American history.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is holding a daylong symposium Saturday on "History, Rebellion and Reconciliation: Communities Mobilized for Social Change." Since the museum is still under construction, the symposium will be held at the National Museum of the American Indian.

The symposium will include several panels and discussions with experts, artists and journalists. The morning session will focus on lessons learned from Ferguson, Missouri, moderated by Juan Williams of Fox News.

An afternoon session will present a conversation with Ava DuVernay, director of the movie "Selma." Other sessions will focus on faith organizations and the power of words.
